Abstract

This study defines the organizational society as a ‘political field’ and demonstrates the influence of political skills on the career outcomes(career satisfaction, career commitment) of public officials. Specifically, by verifying the difference in the effects of political skills by gender, it was intended to confirm the reality of the social and political influences working behind the official organization. In this study, a structural equation model and multi-group analysis were conducted with 389 central and local public officials. Findings revealed that regardless of gender, networking ability had a direct effect on career satisfaction and career commitment. Also, apparent sincerity was found to have a positive influence on career satisfaction and career commitment only in the male group. In addition, Interpersonal influence and social astuteness as temperamental characteristics did not have a significant influence on subjective career outcomes. In the hypothesized path above, the significant difference in effect according to gender was confirmed in the relationship between ‘apparent sincerity and career satisfaction’. Finally, this study interpreted the results in consideration of the dual agenda of political skills in the context of the career outcomes of public organizations, and provided policy implications that were highly consistent with reality.
