Abstract

The several researches have revealed that political skill is associated with organizational outcomes such as job performance, manager's leadership, and subordinates' job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. This research investigates the impact of subordinates' political skill on performance which is divided into task and contextual aspect in Korean organizations, and the moderating effect of leader's political skill in the relationship between subordinates' political skill and performance. For an empirical analysis, total 73 questionnaires were distributed to the supervisors and 337 questionnaires to the employees in 10 companies in Korea. SPSS 21.0 was used for descriptive statistic, reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The conclusions of this research are as follows. First, subordinates' political skill affects a positive influence on both task and contextual performance. And subordinates' political skill has an more effect on contextual performance than task one. Those results are congruence with the researches such as Jawahar, et al.’s(2008) or Bing’s(2011). Secondly, the moderating effect of leader's political skill in the relationship between subordinates' political skill and performance is not demonstrated. But this research finds out the possibility of moderating effect of leader's political skill in the sub-group with low political skill among subordinates.
