청소년기 시민의식의 변화와 학생주도 학습경험의 시간효과

A study on the time effects of student-led learning experiences on the civic consciousness of adolescents

초록

본 연구에서는 청소년기 시민의식의 변화 궤적을 탐색하고, 시민의식의 변화 추이에 학생주도 학습경험이 각 시점에서 동시효과와 지연효과를 갖는지 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 경기교육종단연구(Gyeonggi Education Panel Study: GEPS)의 초4패널 자료 중 1차년도(초4), 3차년도(초6), 5차년도(중2), 7차년도(고1)의 4시점 자료를 활용하여, 잠재성장모형(Latent Growth Model: LGM) 분석방법을 적용하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생주도 학습경험의 시간효과를 투입하지 않은 무조건 모형에서 초4부터 고1까지의 시민의식은 시간에 흐름에 따라 선형적으로 증가하는 양상을 보였다. 둘째, 한 시점의 학생주도 학습경험이 동일 시점의 시민의식에 영향을 미치는 동시효과를 검증한 결과, 초4부터 고1까지 모든 시점에서 학생주도 학습경험을 높게 인식할수록 시민의식의 성장에 정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 한 시점의 학생주도 학습경험이 이후 시점의 시민의식 변화에 영향을 미치는 지연효과를 검증한 결과, 초4, 초6, 중2 시점의 학생주도 학습경험을 높게 인식할수록 지연시점인 초6, 중2, 고1의 시민의식이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과는 학생주도 학습경험이 시민의식의 변화에 상당한 영향력을 발휘하고 있음을 보여주며, 특히 동일 시점에서의 학생주도 학습경험은 청소년 시기 전반에 걸쳐 시민의식의 증진을 뒷받침하고 있음을 시사한다. 본 연구는 청소년의 시민의식의 변화 양상을 탐색하고, 학생주도 학습경험이 시민의식의 발달궤적에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다는 점에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 청소년 시민의식의 지속가능한 발달을 위해 학생주도 학습경험을 풍부하게 하는 교실의 변화 및 교육정책의 개발에 대해 논의하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the changing trajectory of civic consciousness and to examine the time effect of student-led learning experiences on civic consciousness. For the purposes of this study, the 4th-grade panel data of the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study(GEPS) were analyzed using structural equation modeling for simultaneous and lagged models. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, civic consciousness showed a linear increase with time in the unconditional model. Second, as a result of verifying the simultaneous effect that the student-led learning experience had at one point of time and the way it affects the change of civic consciousness at the same point of time, it was found that the higher the recognition of the student-led learning experience, the higher the level of civic consciousness. Third, as a result of verifying the lagged effect that the student-led learning experience had at one point of time affects the change of civic consciousness at the next point of time, the higher the recognition of the student-led learning experience showed high civic consciousness. The significance of this study was to explore the changes in civic consciousness and to analyze the effects of student-led learning experiences on the developmental trajectory of civic consciousness.
