재한 일본인 유학생의 대학생활 갈등과 대처에 관한 사례 연구

본 연구는 국내 대학 내 문화 간 접촉의 맥락에서 일본인 유학생이 경험하는 사회적 갈등 상황을 파악하기 위해 서울 및 부산 지역의 사립대학 학부 유학생 10명을 대상으로 서면조사와 개별 면담을 실시하여 질적 사례 연구방법인 KJ법으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 일본인 유학생의 대학생활 갈등은 대인관계 곤란, 한국인의 반일감정으로 인한 불쾌감, 한국어로 인한 커뮤니케이션 오류가 주요 내용으로 도출되었다. 둘째, 갈등 상황 귀인에 대해 분석한 결과, 한국인 개인 및 집단에 귀인한 외집단 요인이 가장 많았고, 내외집단 공동 요인, 내집단 자기 요인, 문화 요인의 순이다. 셋째, 갈등 대처는 소극적으로 대처하기보다 적극적으로 대처하였으며, 주로 제3자 개입, 주장 및 통합하는 전략을 사용하였다. 넷째, 대처 시 감정은 부정적이었으며, 타인에 대한 외적 부정 감정보다 스스로에 대한 내적 부정 감정을 많이 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 대처 후 감정 변화가 있는 경우는 소수였다. 갈등이 해소되었거나 학습 의욕으로 전환되어 긍정적으로 변화한 경우, 부정적인 감정이 악화된 경우, 스트레스 상황이 중단된 경우가 도출되었다. 다섯째, 갈등 내용부터 감정까지 각 과정의 관련을 검토한 결과, 일본인 유학생이 대학생활 중 직면한 갈등에 적극적으로 대처하여도 갈등이 해소되지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 일본인 유학생이 대학생활 중 직면한 갈등 현상을 스스로의 노력만으로 해소할 수 없음을 나타낸다. 따라서 유학생이 직면한 갈등 상황을 해결할 수 있는 대학 구성원의 체계적인 지원이 필요하다고 논의하였다.
Abstract
This paper sought to understand the social conflicts experienced by Japanese international students within the cultural contexts of Korean universities. The research methodology used centered on written surveys and interviews conducted upon 10 undergraduate students at private universities in Seoul and Busan using the KJ analysis method. As a result, ‘difficulties in interpersonal relations’ was derived as a major group. Second, the analysis of conflict attribution showed in order that ‘external group factors’ was the most common. Third, the analysis of conflict coping strategies showed that they are more ‘active’ than ‘passive’. Fourth, the emotions in coping were all negative, resulting in more internal negative emotions that in most cases remained the same or deteriorated. Fifth, as a result of reviewing the relevance of each process from conflicts to emotions, the conflicts remained unresolved even though Japanese international students actively dealt with what they faced during their university lives. Therefore, it has been concluded in this study that the following members of the university system, namely: the administrators, teaching staff, and students themselves evidently need to be more aware of the above mentioned difficulties experienced by the Japanese international undergraduates, and extend support towards this group.
