Abstract
Purpose: This study aims to analyze the labor market transition of persons with disabilities and to identify the characteristics of each type. Method: The study utilized data from Waves 1–8 of the second Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled(PSED) and applied sequence analysis. Using the DHD method, a distance matrix was calculated by considering the transition proportions of states at each time point, and hierarchical cluster analysis was used to classify the types. Results: The type of labor market transition revealed three types: the "Prefer Non-Employment" type, the "In school" type, and the "Wage Worker transition" type. The most prevalent type was the "Prefer Non-Employment" group, characterized by individuals constrained in labor market transitions who either did not aspire to employment from the beginning or remained in a non-employment state for an extended period after transitioning to it. The "In school" type consisted of individuals who maintained their academic pursuits for a prolonged period. The "Wage Worker transition" type included individuals who entered the labor market directly and sustained employment in the form of wage work for a long duration. Conclusion: There is a need to expand employment services targeting individuals in involuntary unemployment. Furthermore, the "Prefer Non-Employment" state should be understood as a stage in the life course, with diverse educational and employment opportunities provided to accommodate this perspective.
