결정적 성화 개념에 대한 존 머레이(John Murray)와 존 페스코(John Fesko)의 상반된 견해

본 논문은 결정적 성화 개념의 타당성을 평가하고 있다. 이를 위해 결정적 성화 개념을 처음 제시한 존 머레이의 입장과 이 개념을 반대하는 존 페스코의 입장을 비교 검토하였다. 그 결과 본 논문에서는 결정적 성화 개념이 점진적 성화와는 구별되는 독립적인 개념임을 다시 한 번 확인하였다. 결정적 성화의 내용은 기본적으로 신분적(positional)인 것이었다. 그러나 페스코의 지적처럼 머레이가 제시했던 로마서 6장은 결정적 성화의 핵심 근거가 되기에는 부적절한 것으로 판단된다. 본 논문에서는 두 존 중에서 존 머레이의 입장을 기본적으로 지지한다. 그리고 결정적 성화가 법정적 성격을 가져 기존의 칭의 개념과 충돌하는 문제 그리고 결정적 성화와 점진적 성화 두 개념에 있어서의 거룩 개념의 일관성 문제 등은 결정적 성화 이론이 보완해야 할 약점으로 파악되었다.
Abstract
This paper evaluates the validity of the concept of definitive sanctification. To do this, John Murray’s view of the definitive sanctification was investigated in comparison with that of John Fesko’s. As a result, the concept of definitive sanctification appears as a distinctive independent concept from progressive sanctification. And the characteristic of the definitive sanctification is basically positional. But it seems that Romans chapter 6 cannot be a proper evidence for definitive sanctification as Fesko had indicated. Therefore we support basically John Murray’s view between the two. But some problems still remained unsolved: first, the conflict between the forensic nature of the definitive sanctification and the concept of justification, second, the consistency of the concept of holiness in both kinds of sanctifications.
