기독론의 빛에서 본 세례와 성만찬의 종말론적 지평의 재발견: 존 칼빈과의 비평적 대화

본 논문은 칼빈의 신학에서 세례와 성만찬이 종말론적인 차원을 보존하고 있는지를 비판적으로 탐구하였다. 이를 위하여 필자는 본래 기독론에 착근된 세례와 성만찬은 종말론적인 문맥을 담고 있는 것임을 20세기 하나님 나라 신학에 비추어서 밝혔고, 그것이 칼빈의 신학에서 어떻게 반영되는 지를 살폈다. 그 결과, 칼빈은 세례와 성만찬을 구원론적이거나 교회론적인 문맥에 두었고, 종말론적인 차원과는 깊숙하게 연결하지 않았음을 발견하였다. 이런 논의에 비추어 종교개혁 500주년을 맞는 한국교회가 세례와 성만찬을 거행할 때 구원론적이고 교회론적이면서도 종말론적인 차원을 잘 보존함으로써 자기를 반성하고 새로운 미래를 열어야 한다는 사실을 실천적으로 제언하였다.
Abstract
This article aimed to evaluate Calvin’s understanding of Baptism and Holy Communion from the light of eschatology as christology. For this purpose, the present writer in the first place focused on the fact that the New Testament describes Baptism and Holy Communion from the perspective of eschatology, including the perspectives of soteriology and ecclesiology. From the eschatological perspective in the second place the present writer read the text Calvin dealt with Baptism and Holy Communion. As a result the present writer found out that while Calvin put Baptism and Holy Communion in the context of soteriology as well as ecclesiology, he was not fully aware of eschatological perspective. In the third place, the present writer paid critically attention to the 21st context in which the Korean church lives, and suggested the korean church to have Baptism and Holy Communion from the eschatological perspective. As a result of that the Korean Church as the eschatological community would find her future way to go.
