청교도의 직업 소명론에 관한 고찰

청교도의 직업적 소명론의 본질과 정체성은 존 칼빈의 개혁주의적 소명론에 입각하여 형성되었으며 윌리암 틴데일, 윌리암 퍼킨스를 중심으로 루이스 베일리, 존 코튼 등으로 전수되었다. 이들은 하나님께서 신자들에게 주신 소명을 일반적소명과 특별소명으로 분류하고 직업적 소명은 특별소명으로서 구원론적 관점에서 신앙과 회개와 회심을 통한 그리스도를 이 땅 위에 선포하며 증거하는 성화의 삶의 배경이 된다는 점을 강조하였다. 청교도는 개혁주의 세계관 즉, 창조 타락 구속 완성 등에 입각하여 직업소명론을 분석하였다.
Abstract
The aim of this paper is to inquire what the Puritans really believed about the doctrine of vocation. John Calvin challenged the traditional separation between sacred and secular or clergy and laity spheres. Following John Calvin, English Puritans affirmed that the doctrines of salvation, providence, creation, fall and redemption provided an interpretive framework for the Puritan’s doctrine of vocation. For Puritans, faith sanctifies even the most mundane tasks and therefore a person can serve God in any kind of vocation. They also believed that the work in a world calling as a way to promote and to participate in the heavenly kingdom. they found the doctrine of vocation in the framework of reformed worldview such as the creation, fall, redemption, consummation
