Abstract

This study tried to verify that information asymmetry, especially uncertainty of the dividend policy between managers and investors of a firm could affect of Idiosyncratic Volatility(IVOL). As a result, it is generally observed that the IVOL is relatively smaller in case of a large and profitable companies in full sample. But, we divided the full samples into four groups such as stable vs unstable dividend payout firms, family vs non-family business groups, and tested the same model in each sample. And we find that BM, ROE and △ROE are not significant only in the stable dividend payout group, and DEBT is not significant in case of the family business group that have stable dividend policy. This implies that, at least in case that the information asymmetry is not strong, some firm characteristics may not be significant risk factors to investors.
