Khang and King(2006), Li and Zhao(2008)의 연구와 일치한 결과를 보였다.
Abstract
We examine how informational asymmetries affect firm's dividend policy based on the dividend signaling theory. A sample of 1,798 corporations listed on the Korea Exchange from 2000 to 2008 is selected. We analyze the relation between firm dividend policy and the information asymmetry which is measured by the analyst earing forecast dispersion. Prior research shows that forecast dispersion is positively correlation with the extent of information asymmetry that firms face. We conjecture that if the signaling theory of dividends is an accurate description of reality, then firm's dividend policies should be positively associated with analyst earning forecast dispersion. We find that there is negative relation between asymmetric information and measure of dividend policy. Our results do not support the signaling hypothesis of dividend. It means that firms more subject to the problem of information asymmetry are less likely to make dividend payments and that these firms also distribute smaller amounts. Our evidence casts doubt on the validity of dividend signaling models.
