Abstract
This paper presents an understanding of organizational culture using interpretive approach instead of functional approach. The functional approach widely used in management studies for a long time. The approach regards organizational culture as the characteristics which organizations have and attempts to find the relationship of cause and effect between organizational culture and other organizational variables. Therefore, it prescribes for organizations to increase their efficiency and presents patterns of organizational culture. These patterns could be convenient tool for understanding phenomena, however, could not explain complex real phenomena. Therefore, this paper describes the content of organizational culture as it is using interpretive approach. Ethnography, one of interpretive approaches, is a method which understands what kind of order a group of human being live in and why they establish that kind of order. The research object is an understanding organizational culture of a project team, which performs demand research for e-business cyber academy for women. The organizational culture of this project shows complex aspects including various patterns. First, regulations existed with autonomy. Second, this team had a hierarchical organizational structure and rational evaluation criteria. Besides, they regarded the relationship of organization members as very important value. Third, project members showed resistance toward their leaders without using formal and informal communication channel. And finally, the type of decision-making is changed by conditions and situations.
