This paper aims to study the aspects of connective expressions and to follow how the connective expressions are realized in five different languages based on the universal typology. Each language seems to have a unique connective expression system, but we are able to find out significant similarities on the basis of typology. Connective expressions are language universals and two general classes of connective expressions, coordinating and subordinating, are distinguished. There are three different ways to designate the subordinate clause; subordinating morphemes, special verb forms, and word order. The connective expressions are mainly derived from content words such as verbs, nouns, and adverbs and they are gradually gone through common path of grammaticalization
