본 연구는 일반인의 장애인에 대한 사회적 거리감을 장애유형과 네 개의 인구사회학적 변인에 따라 분석하고자 하였다. 사회적 거리감은 특정 집단이나 계층에 대해 가지고 있는 개인의 주관적인 느낌으로서, 본 연구에서는 사회적 거리감을 다섯 가지 차원에서 살펴보았다. ‘국가․제도’, ‘일반․생활’, ‘학교․동료’, ‘친구’, 그리고 ‘가족’이다. 총 1002명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며 다음과 같은 연구문제를 중심으로 분석하였다. 첫째, 장애인에 대한 사회적 거리감은 장애유형에 따라 어떠한 차이가 있는가? 둘째, 사회적 거리감은 다섯 가지 차원에 대해 어떠한 차이를 보이는가? 셋째, 장애인에 대한 사회적 거리감은 인구사회학적 변인에 따라 어떠한 차이를 보이는가? 여기서 배경변인으로는 성별․연령․직업․학력으로 구분하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사람들은 청각장애와 시각장애와 같은 감각장애와 비교하여 지적장애인에 대해서 가장 큰 거리감을 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 다섯 개 차원에 대한 사회적 거리감을 살펴본 결과 ‘일반․생활’에서 가장 긍정적으로 느끼며, ‘가족’ 차원에서는 가장 거리감을 많이 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 인구사회학적 변인에 따른 차이에서는 네 개의 변인 모두에서 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine nondisabled people's sense ofsocial distance from the disabled by the type of disability and four selectedsociodemographic characteristics. A sense of social distance refers to one'ssubjective feeling about a specific group or class. In this study, a sense of socialdistance was analyzed in terms of four: 'nation/system,' 'generality/life,' 'school/colleague,' and 'friend and family.' A survey was conducted on 1,002 people, andthree research questions were posed:1. What differences are there among the nondisabled people in a sense ofsocial distance from the disabled according to the type of disability?2. What differences are there among the nondisabled people in the fivedimensions of a sense of social distance?3. What differences are there among the nondisabled people in a sense ofsocial distance from the disabled according to sociodemographic characteristics?The selected background variables were gender, age, occupation, academiccredential and monthly mean income. The findings of the study were as follows:First, the respondents felt distant most from people with intellectual disabilities,whereas they felt less distant from people with disturbance of sense such ashearing impairment or visual impairment. Second, as for the five dimensions of asense of social distance, they took the most positive attitude in terms of 'generality/life,' and they felt distant most in terms of 'family.' Concerning differences accordingto the sociodemographic characteristics, there were significant differences according to all the five variables.
