본 연구는 물리치료와 행동분석 분야의 전문성을 통합하기 위해 노력한 소아물리치료사의 경험을 탐색하고 그 내면에 담긴 의미를 분석하기 위해 수행되었다. 본 연구에 12년 경력의 소아물리치료사가 참여하였으며, 연구자는 임상 현장에서 물리치료와 행동분석 두 분야의 전문성을 통합적으로 적용했던 연구 참여자의 간학문적 접근 과정을 내러티브 탐구 절차에 따라 이야기로 재구성하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, ‘시작점: 소아물리치료사의 길을 걷게 되다’, 둘째, ‘변곡점: 현장에서 행동중재의 필요성을 느끼다’, 셋째, ‘성장점: 전문성을 계발하며 정체성을 형성하다’, 넷째, ‘지향점: 아동과 나, 모두를 위한 통합을 바라다’ 등으로 이루어진 네 가지 내러티브 구조가 도출되었다. 본 연구는 기존에 보유하고 있던 물리치료 전문성에 행동분석의 전문성을 접목했던 소아물리치료사의 경험과 노력의 가치를 조명하고 간학문적 접근의 중요성을 강조한다. 이를 통해, 임상 현장의 실무자들와 연구자들에게 치료 분야 간 전문성 통합의 필요성과 방향성을 제시할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of a pediatric physical therapist who integrated expertise in both physical therapy and behavior analysis, and to analyze the meanings embedded within those experiences. A pediatric physical therapist with 12 years of experience participated in this study. The researcher reconstructed the participant’s interdisciplinary approach to integrating physical therapy and behavior analysis in clinical practice using a narrative inquiry framework. The results of this study, four narrative structures emerged: (1) Starting point: Embarking on the path of a pediatric physical therapist; (2) Turning point: Recognizing the necessity of behavioral intervention in clinical practice; (3) Growth point: Developing expertise and shaping professional identity; and (4) Aspirational point: Envisioning integration for the benefit of both the child and the therapist. This study highlights the experiences and efforts of a pediatric physical therapist who integrated behavior analysis expertise into their existing physical therapy practice, emphasizing the significance of an interdisciplinary approach. These findings provide practitioners and researchers with insights into both the necessity and the direction of expertise integration across therapeutic disciplines.
