본 연구는 중증 발달장애 청년의 일자리 참여가 가지는 의미를 어머니들의 시각에서 현상학적 방법으로 탐구하였다. O시의 정부 재정 장애인 일자리의 복지 일자리에 참여하는 중증 발달장애 청년의 어머니 5명이 연구에 참여하였다. 이 복지 일자리는 부모단체가 위탁 운영하며, 중증 발달장애 청년을 고용하고 있다. 능력 부족과 업무 부적합, 업무 성과 등의 현실적인 이유로 중증 발달장애 청년들의 취업이 어려웠으나 어머니들은 고등학교를 졸업한 후 갈 곳 없는 자녀를 돌보기 위해 자녀의 취업을 위한 개입과 노력을 진행하였다. 이에 따라, 어머니들은 시청과 협력하여 중증 발달장애 자녀에게 적합하도록 일자리 환경을 조성해 나가고 함께 일에 참여하는 적극적인 모습을 보여주었다. 그 결과, 어머니들은 자녀가 직업을 통해 성장하는 모습들을 확인하고 경험하였다. 이를 토대로 본 연구는 중증 발달장애인의 일에 대한 의미 구조를 중증장애인 취업은 생각할 수 없음, 사회적 돌봄의 부재로 인한 취업 선택, 자녀와 함께 하는 일자리 만들기, 일을 통한 자녀의 성장을 체감이라는 4가지 키워드로 정리하였다. 본 연구는 중증 발달장애 청년의 일의 의미를 어머니들의 경험을 통해 조명하고, 이들의 노력이 어떻게 취업 개선으로 이어지는지를 보여주고 있다. 의사소통이 어렵고 타인의 돌봄이 필요한 중증장애인이어도 주어진 직업 환경에 따라 적응할 수 있고 성장한다는 점을 시사해 주고 있다.
Abstract
This study explored the meaning of job participation of young adults with severe developmental disabilities in a phenomenological way from the perspective of their mothers. Five mothers of young adults with severe developmental disabilities who participated in the welfare jobs of the government's financially disabled jobs in O city participated in this study. This welfare job is commissioned by parents' organizations. This study summarized the meaning structure of young adults with severe developmental disabilities's work into four keywords: being unable to think of employment for the severely disabled, choosing to get a job due to the absence of social care, creating a job with children, and experiencing their children's growth through work. This study illuminates the meaning of work for young adults with severe developmental disabilities through the experiences of mothers and shows how their efforts lead to employment improvement. This suggests that even severely disabled people who have difficulty communicating and need the care of others can adapt and grow according to a given work environment.
