Abstract

This study assesses how orthographic rules are presented in South Korea, North Korea, and China, with an emphasis on general provisions, graphemes, and final consonants. In analyzing general provisions, the study scrutinizes the principles of orthographic rules employing formalism and phonemicism to highlight differences in implementation across these countries. In the section on graphemes, the study investigates the introduction methods of consonant and vowel graphemes, including their naming conventions and dictionary applications. Each country employs unique compositional strategies based on set criteria. Regarding the presentation of final consonants, South Korea includes them in the Commentary on Korean Orthography, whereas North Korea and China integrate them directly into their orthographic rules. Noteworthy differences are observed in the sequence of presentation and the approaches applied to formulate examples.
