이 연구는 자살로 자녀를 잃은 기독교인 자살유가족 어머니의 사별과 애도의 과정에서의 경험을 심층적으로 탐색하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 깊이 있는 해석을 확보하면서도 해석의 다양성을 꾀할 수 있는 사례연구 방법을 적용하여 2명의 연구 참여자를 대상으로 심층 인터뷰를 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 Stake(1995)의 본질적 사례연구의 분석 틀을 통해 5개의 범주, 15개의 의미 개념과 60개의 중심 개념으로 정리하였다. 5개의 주요 범주는 ‘끝나지 않을 것 같은 내 아이를 위한 애도’, ‘남은 가족에 대한 양가적 감정’, ‘신앙이 주는 고통과 위로’, ‘아프고도 따뜻한 교회공동체’, ‘이젠 마주하며 이겨보려 해’로 명명되었다. 이를 통해 자살로 자녀를 잃은 기독교인 자살유가족 어머니는 일반 자살유가족 어머니가 경험하는 애도의 과정에 더해 종교적 고립을 함께 경험함으로써 고통의 강도가 가중되는 경험을 하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 기독교인 자살유가족 어머니를 돕기 위해 대상의 특성에 맞는 유가족 돌봄 방안에 대해 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study conducts an in-depth inquiry into the experiences of the bereavement and mourning process of Christian mothers who lost a child after suicide. For this purpose, the researcher collected data from two research participants in an in-depth interview and applied a case study method that is capable of ensuring profound interpretations and allowing for interpretive diversity. The collected data was arranged into five categories, 15 semantic concepts, and 60 key concepts under the analysis framework for fundamental case. The five main categories are as follows: mourning for my child that seems to last forever, ambivalent emotions for my family left behind, pain and consolation from my faith, my church community that is both hurtful and warm, and now I'm trying to face to overcome. They show that Christian mothers who lost a child after suicide experienced religious isolation with the intensity of their pain increasing in addition to a mourning process experienced by their non-Christian counterparts. Based on these findings, this study discusses ways to take care of bereaved families according to the objects to help Christian mothers in suicide families.
