자살로 자녀를 잃은 부모의 애도 경험

Parental Mourning Experiences of Losing Children by Suicide

초록

본 연구는 자살로 자녀를 잃은 부모의 애도 경험의 의미를 탐구하여 밝히고자 하였다. 이를 위해 자살로 자녀를 잃은 부모 3명을 기관 및 지연을 통한 의도적 표집으로 심층면접을 실시하였다. 연구 참여자는 자살로 자녀를 잃은 지 3년 이상 경과되었고, 현재는 비교적 안정적인 삶을 살고 있는 유가족 3명이다. 심층면접을 통한 자료 수집 기간은 2020년 9월부터 2021년 2월까지이며 한 참여자당 총 3~5회의 면담을 실시하였다. 자료 분석은 Clandinin과 Connelly의 내러티브 탐구에 의해 수행되었다. 참여자들의 삶의 경험의 의미는 <믿기지 않음: 세상 떠난 자식을 꿈, 생각, 마음속에서 붙들고 살아감> <아무 낙이 없음: 따라가고 싶은 고통 속에서 어찌할 바를 모름> <비난의 화살은 결국 나에게로 향함: 자녀의 자살을 막지 못했음을 곱씹음> <죽음의 이유를 알 수 없음: 버림받고 처벌받았다고 느낌> <평생 죄인처럼 살아감: 깊이 숨기며 고통에 짓눌림> <용서하기로 선택함: 서로 살기 위해 미움을 내려놓음> <남겨진 책임감으로 일어섬: 다시 살게 하는 힘이 됨> <의미 부여하기: 다른 사람들에게 도움이 되기를 원함>의 여덟 가지로 나타났다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 자살유가족에 대한 부정적 인식 전환의 필요성과 자살로 자녀를 잃은 부모들이 정상적 애도 경험을 통하여 슬픔을 잘 견뎌낼 수 있도록 돕는 치료 프로그램의 필요성을 제시하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to explore the meaning of the experience of mourning for parents who lost their children by suicide. To this aim, three parents who lost their children by suicide were recruited through intentional recruitment through institutions and regionalism, and in-depth interviews were conducted. The participants are three parents who lost their children by suicide for more than three years and are now living a relatively stable life. The data collection through in- depth interviews was conducted from September 2020 to February 2021, and a total of three to five interviews were conducted per participant. Data analysis was conducted through the narrative inquiry presented by Clandinin and Connelly. The meaning of the participants' experiences in life is <Unbelievable: Holding onto the child who passed away in dreams, thoughts, and mind>, <No pleasure: Not knowing what to do in pain to follow>, <The arrow of criticism: Can’t stop his child's suicide>, <The reason for death was unknown: Feeling abandoned and punished>, <Life as a sinner: Hiding deeply suffering>, <Choosing to forgive: Standing up with the responsibility left to live>, and <Giving meaning: Wanting to help others>. Based on this study, we suggested the need for a change of negative perception of suicide survivors and a treatment program to help parents who lost their children by suicide endure sadness well through normal mourning experiences.
