자살자 유가족의 애도과정 경험에 관한 연구

초록

본 연구는 자살자 유가족들이 가족의 자살 후 겪었던 애도과정 경험에 대한 연구이다. 본 연구의 목적은 이론적으로는 자살자 유가족의 경험의 본질을 심층적으로 이해하고, 실천적으로는 자살자 유가족의 회복을 돕기 위한 가족치료적 개입의 근거 자료를 구축하는 데 있다. 자살로 인해 가족을 잃은 유가족이 중요하게 지각하는 경험은 무엇이며 어떻게 애도의 과정을 거치는가를 살펴보고 그 본질적 의미를 밝혀내기 위해, 자살자 유가족을 대상으로 심층면접을 실시하여 경험을 탐색하였다. 연구 참여자들은 지연을 통한 의도적 표집으로 확보되었고 인터뷰가 가능한 6명이 최종적으로 참여하게 되었다. 연구 결과는 질적 연구방법인 현상학적 연구절차를 통해 분석, 정리하였다. 분석결과 20개의 규명된 주제와 6개의 본질적 주제가 구성되었다. 본 연구를 통해 분석된 결과는 다음과 같다. 6개의 본질적 주제는『순간적으로 포박된 삶』,『죽음과 삶의 엉킴』『저마다의 시간이 필요한 법』,『대처방법-죽음과 삶의 분리』,『회복의 신호- 안전감』,『삶과 죽음의 동행』이었다. 이 연구를 통해 본 자살 유가족들의 애도 과정 경험의 의미는 가족의 자살로 인한 상실의 절망 속에서 고통을 이기고 새로운 삶을 시작하게 되는 과정인 ‘엉킴에서 분리되기’, ‘용서하고 살아나기’의 과정으로 요약될 수 있을 것이다.

Abstract

Objectives: This study examined the grieving process of family members who have experienced the loss of a family member from suicide. The theoretical purpose of the study was to develop an in-depth understanding of the experience of the bereaved family. The practical purpose was to establish supporting data of a family therapy intervention to aid in the recovery of families bereaved by suicide. Methods: To examine the perceived experiences of bereaved family members and the essential meaning of their grieving process, the researchers conducted in-depth phenomenological interviews with six bereaved family members. Phenomenological methods were also used for the organization and analysis of the data. Results: Six essential topics emerged through analysis: “life tied up momentarily,” “entanglement of life and death,” “each one may need time,” “coping by separating life from death,” “security as a signal of recovery,” and “accompanying life and death.” Conclusions: Through this study, the grieving process of a family bereaved by suicide was summarized as “the process of starting a new life,” “separation from entanglement,” and “forgiving and moving on” as the family members overcame the pain and despair of the loss.
