본 설계에서는 사찰에 조성하는 정원의 형식과 표현방법, 식물소재를 사용하지 않는 랜드아트적 개념의 조성방법, 사찰정원의 기능에 대한 문제를 해결하는 것이 목표로 진행되었으며, 그 결과, 사찰의 정원은 일반적인 공간에 조성하는 정원과는 달리 불교의 교리와 조사스님들의 사상과 철학이 바탕이 되어야 의미를 가질 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 사찰의 정원은 아름다움을 관상하는 기능도 중요하지만, 선이나 명상 또는 치유와 관련된 기능을 부여할 경우 선호도가 높을 수 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고, 사찰의 정원은 일반적 개념의 정원을 조성하는 것도 좋겠지만, 랜드아트적 개념의 정원이 불교 교리와 조사스님들의 사상과 철학을 표현하기에 유리할 수도 있으며, 정원을 조성할 장소가 가진 성격에 따라서 적용할 수 있는 설계개념에 차이가 발생할 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 마지막으로 사찰의 정원 역시 공간의 규모와는 상관없이 설계의 주제를 어떻게 풀어내는가, 그리고 그 주제를 풀어낼 수 있는 디자인모티프가 무엇이고, 그것을 어떠한 요소로 표현하는가에 따라서 정원에 대한 평가가 달라질 수 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this design was to solve the problems of the form and expression of the garden in the temple, the method of creating land art concepts without using plant materials, and the function of the temple garden. As a result, the temple garden can only be meaningful based on the ideas and philosophy of Buddhist doctrine and investigators. It was also confirmed that the temple garden is important to physically examine beauty, but it can be highly preferred if it is given a function related to goodness, meditation, or healing. Additionally, it would be beneficial to create a general concept garden, but it was discovered that the garden with a land art concept could be beneficial to express Buddhist doctrine and the ideas and philosophy of investigators, and that the design concepts that can be applied could vary depending on the nature of the place where the garden will be built. Finally, regardless of the size of the space, the temple's garden can also be seen to have a different evaluation of the garden depending on how the design theme is solved and what elements the design motif can be expressed.
