도심제조지역의 골목 정원 설계† - 을지로 세운 5구역을 대상으로 -

Abstract

The Euljiro manufacturing district reflects the rapid growth and contradictions of Korean society, and retains vestiges of its history in a narrow, desolate setting. While the city of Seoul plans to develop the area into a high-end residential and business district, current residents and workers employees are working together to preserve and regenerate the neighbourhood. This study explores the historical background of Euljiro and proposes a self-sustaining garden planting and community space in collaboration with local artisans to improve the its environment and community life in an urban manufacturing neighbourhood. Euljiro’s manufacturing area is densely populated with various industries, and has it contains many old buildings and facilities. In particular, roofs, drainage pipes, and alleys are in poor condition, and many craftsmen grow plants in small pots. In order to solve these problems, the study proposed a landscape improvement project using public art and plants. The ‘Goom Alley Garden Project’ proposes a plant communication programme, fire retardant roofing improvement, and plant installation using drainage pipes to regenerate the old environment of Euljiro and promote collaborative activities between artisans and citizens. It This study is significant that, as the proposal of the alley garden is an attempt to explore the possibility of community revitalisation.
