The purpose of this study is to review grammatical status of negative word ‘안’ in short negative sentence. There are two kinds of syntactical negation in Korean. One is a short negation. Other is a long negation. Negative word ‘안’ in short negative sentence is treated as a Negative Adverb, NEG, Negative prefixes. There are syntactical characteristics in short negation. ‘안’+predicate' is not modified by Adverb, negative scope and modified scope of ‘안’ is not crossed each other. Negative word ‘안’ cannot combine with derivative predicate and compound predicate. Negative word ‘안’ co-occurred with negative polarizable adverbs. It was based on the above fact, compared characteristics as a Negative Adverb and NEG, Negative prefixes, and review grammatical status of negative word ‘안’ in short negative sentence. The results are as follows. First, negative word ‘안’ is adjacent to a predicate most in short negative sentence and combine with a predicate. Second, negative word ‘안’ form meaning-unit with a predicate. Third, negative word ‘안’ is unbounded grammatical morpheme in Korean not NEG or negative prefixes.
