단형 부정문을 형성하는 ‘안’의 문법 범주에 관하여

단형 부정문을 형성하는 부정소 ‘안’의 문법 범주를 학계에서는 일반적으로 부사 또는 기능구인 NegP의 핵으로 처리하여 왔다. 이는 곧 부정소 ‘안’을 독립된 단어로 인정하고, 부정소 ‘안’과 용언이 통사적으로 결합하여 단형 부정문을 형성한다는 것을 전제로 삼아 논의를 진행해 왔음을 의미한다. 하지만, 많은 수의 용언들이 부정소 ‘안’과 결합하여 단형 부정문을 형성하지 못하는 사실에서 우리는 단형 부정문의 형성이 단순히 통사적으로 형성되지 않았음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본고에서는 부정소 ‘안’의 문법 범주를 부사나 NegP의 핵이 아닌 접사로 설정하는 것이 타당함을 제안하였다. 즉, 단형 부정문은 통사적인 과정으로 이루어진 것이 아니라, 접사 ‘안’과 어기의 결합이라는 단어 형성 과정을 통해 이루어졌음을 확인한 것이다. 부정소 ‘안’이 접사라는 사실을 본고에서는 (i) 유형론의 관점에서, 부정소 ‘안’의 위치, (ii) 단형 부정문을 형성하지 못하는 용언들의 특성, (iii) 본용언-보조 용언 구성에서 부정소 ‘안’의 실현 양상을 통해서 확인하였다.
Abstract
In Korean, there are two different types of the negation constructions. In these two types, this paper focuses on the so-called Short-Form Negation, and investigates the character of the negative particle ‘an’ which is placed in front of the predicate and constructs Short-Form Negation. Finally, this paper tries to define the category of this negative particle ‘an’ based on its characteristics. Up until now, in the Korean linguistic circle, this particle has been regarded as an adverb or the head of NegP. However, many verbs or adjectives (state-verbs) cannot build Short-Form Negation with this particle, so it is difficult to say that this particle is categorized as the adverb or the head of NegP. This paper insists on that the negative particle ‘an’ in Korean is a affix(=a derivational morpheme) which works as building a derivational word. As for the evidence of this new proposal, the paper provides (i) typological basis, (ii) the properties of the verbs and the adjectives which cannot make Short-Form Negation, and (iii) the behavior of the negative particle ‘an’ in the verb-serial constructions in Korean.
