Abstract
This paper examines the impact of political skill on individual performance through leader-member exchange (LMX) among 523 employees working in four shopping malls in Yangon, Myanmar. This paper also analyzes the moderated mediation effect of indegree centrality in the teamadvice network on this relationship. The results show that political skill has a positive relationship with LMX, and LMX has a positive relationship with individual performance. Political skill demonstrates a positive relationship with individual performance mediated by LMX. Furthermore, the indegree centrality of the team advice network positively moderates the relationship between LMX and individual performance and strengthensthe mediating effect of political skill on individual performance through LMX. This paper explains the process by which political skill affects individual performance based on social exchange theory and conservation of resources theory. It also emphasizesthe importance of resource acquisition through vertical and horizontal relationships within the team. These findings provide practical implications for the development of political skill and the importance of network formation within organizations.
