이 글의 목적은 베르그손과 레비나스의 철학에서 발견할 수 있는 새로운 인류애의 진전 내지 타인에 대한 윤리적 행위로서의 사랑이 왜 창조적 생명의 에너지로서 정의될 수 있는가를 이해하고 사랑의 보편성과 그 심층적 의미를 밝히고자 한 것이다. 그들에게 사랑은 인류의 창조적 지속을 실현하는 구체적 행위로서 드러나며 그것이 생명의 활동이고 새로운 비약을 위한 인간성의 고양이라는 점은 공통적인 부분이라고할 수 있다. 말하자면 베르그손에게 사랑은 창조적 생명력에 근거해서 그 생명의 비약 으로써 인류애를 승화시키는 정점에 위치해 있다는 것이며 레비나스에게는 신적 초월 성이 ‘타인에의 욕망’으로 나타나서 탁월한 사회성 내지 구체적인 윤리의 실천을 가져 온다는 것이다. 분명히 두 철학자는 생성, 지속, 정신과 물질, 기억, 사랑, 죽음 등의 공통적인 사유의 개념들을 빈번히 사용하며 사상적인 체계를 완성한 특징을 갖고 있다. 이런 부분은 그들이 정신주의의 철학적 계열에서 또는 유대주의의 전통에서 엿볼 수있는 일부의 가치관들을 적지 않게 접목한 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 오늘날 사회 공동체가 추구하고 중시해야 할 바람직한 도덕과 윤리의 기준이 무엇인지를 새롭게 사유해 보고자 하는 것도 이 시대에 베르그손과 레비나스의 사랑의 형이상학을 다시 바라볼수 있는 중요한 이유라고 할 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to explore why love as an ethical act or progress of a new kind of humanity found in the philosophy of Bergson and Levinas, how it can be defined as the energy of creative life, and to reveal the diachronicity of love and its profound meaning. Obviously, to them, love appears as a concrete action that realizes the creative continuation of mankind, and it is an activity of life and a progress of humanity for a new leap. In other words, for Bergson, love is at the apex of sublimating humanity as a vital leap based on creative vitality, and for Levinas, divine transcendence appears as ‘desire for others’, resulting in excellent sociality or concrete ethical practice. Clearly, they frequently used common concepts of thought such as becoming, continuation, mind and matter, memory, love, and death. This context is as a not small graft of values that can be seen in the philosophical line of spiritualism and in the tradition of Judaism. Trying to think anew about the desirable moral and ethical standards that the social community should pursue today is also an important reason to look back at the metaphysics of love of Bergson and Levinas in this age.
