문화의 비극 -부버와 짐멜의 견해를 중심으로-

필자는 우리 사회에서 벌어졌거나 진행 중인 일련의 종교적 사건들을 접하면서, 이런 현상을 ‘종교의 비극’, 나아가 ‘문화의 비극’으로 간주하고자 한다. 물론 종교적 활동을 하는 우리 스스로도 그 비극적 상황에서 결코 자유롭지 못하다. 비극적 운명에 처한 우리 스스로의 모습을 이제 낱낱이 드러내 보고자 한다. 그래서 조금이라도 이 운명적 고리를 끊을 수 있다면, 아니 벗어날 수 있다면 새로운 선택을 할 수도 있게 될 것이다. 이 글은 이런 문제의식을 해결하려는 시도이다. 이런 맥락에서 우리는 우리의 종교적 활동을 포함한 문화적 활동에서 왜 비극적 상황을 맞게 되었는지 그 근본적인 이유를 되묻고자 한다. 이를 위해서 먼저 사람살이의 직접적인 관계에서 그 원인을 살펴보고자 한다. 사람과 사람이 맺는 관계의 유형을 살펴보고, 관계맺음의 방식에 따른 문화의 출현을 마르틴 부버(Martin Buber, 1878-1965)의 시선을 좇아 살펴보고자 한다. 여기서는 깨진, 왜곡된, 단절된 사람 사이의 관계에서 비극의 원인을 찾아낼 수 있을 것이다. 다음으로 사람들이 만들어낸 문화와 문화의식의 상관성을 분석하도록 한다. 사람들이 문화화 되는 과정에서 겪게 되는 주관문화와 객관문화의 갈등, 여기에서 파생하는 문화의 비극의 현상을 게오르그 짐멜(Georg Simmel, 1858-1918)의 시선을 좇아 분석하고자 한다. 이러한 논의를 통해서 우리는 궁극적으로 문화비극의 원인을 찾아내고, 나아가 이를 극복할 수 있는 대안을 찾아보려는 것이다.
Abstract
We usual live in religion, culture, and social system. We feel meaning of life in its relation. Martin Buber(1878-1965) has interested with relations among the people. His philosophy of I and Thou suggests an analysis about existence of human being. He explains three types of I and Thou. In this discussion, Buber emphasized 'meeting', 'dialogue' and 'relation'. Buber's philosophy of I and Thou is important in the study of contemporary culture. And Georg Simmel(1858-1918) was famous for a specific philosopher of culture in Germany. Especially his concept of culture has not only spiritual but also material aspects. It is very important in respect of understanding of culture in era of Capitalism. The purpose of this article aims to find a cause of tragedy of culture through Buber and Simmel's view. In order to this, we will deal relation with human being, especially, Buber's three types of I and Thou relationship. So we will find a cause of broken and isolated relation between human beings. Nextly we will discuss conflict of subject culture and object culture, tragedy of culture in Simmel's view. Through in this study, we will suggest an way of recovery of tragedy of culture.
