This article aims to analyze “School Myth”, collected by Alejandro Ortiz Rescaniere in 1971. At first sight, the great merit of this myth lies in its reflection of the reality of the twentieth century. Above all, it offers very acute criticism of Peru’s educational reality. However, the myth is a recreation of the myth of Inkarri of the colonial era, with marked references to the Cajamarca encounter and the conflict between writing and speech; hence, it incorporates five centuries of the memory of Peruvian history as conquest, colonization and modernization. The rejection of writing noted in “School Myth” is not an indigenous, irrational decision but a subversive criticism of all of these memories.
