Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in teaching beliefs and understandings and collaboration of each others between preservice general and special education teachers. Previous teacher education researches had raised important questions about the effective collaboration and team works between general and special education teachers. However, limited studies have been conducted to analyze two preservice teachers' differences and similarities in the areas of teaching beliefs. In this study, preservice teacher students from 7 university volunteered to participate. A survey that researchers developed includiate.reas of preservice teacher students' beliefs on teaching . A survey t, effective instructional strategies, and mutual understandings was used to collect data. Results of the study indicated that preservice general and special education teachers sh.red beliefs on epistemat py and curriculum favoring constructivism. However, there were sigeyficant differences in the as gens of teachtivstudents rates and evaluation. Preservice special education teachers had more objectivist beliefs than those of general education teacher studentsvsturthermore,s was usults of this study indicated that two preservice teacher students favored different instructional strategies. Both of them perceived that they need more knowledge on the other areas. Overall, study findings suggest that preservice general and special education teachers need to have more shared opportunities including more coursework and authentic collaboration experiences to promote their understanding of the others.
