Abstract

Companies are trying to utilize social media to communicate with customers in an interactive way. For that purpose, many companies are establishing brand’s social media profile in SNS(social network service) where customers can interact with brand and other customers. This study investigates the influence of social presence on building relational capital between brand and customers in brand’s SNS social identity(e.g. facebook fan-page). And this study also attempts to examine the positive impact of relational capital on participants’ brand-built SNS page attitude and brand attitude as well. SEM is adopted to test research model, and it shows that social presence has positive impact on three subsets of relational capital which are trust, norm of reciprocity, and identification with having either direct or indirect way. And furthermore, this study verifies the positive linkage between relational capital and brand-built SNS page attitude, and reveals the positive influence of brand-built SNS page attitude on brand attitude. The results suggests that brand social media identity can be utilized as effective marketing communication channel. And for more effectiveness, the operator should lead to a higher degree of social presence by adopting many communication cues and enhancing media interactivity.
