본 연구는 초등 영어 말하기 학습용 디지털휴먼 기반 AI튜터 프로토타입을 개발하고, 교사의 관점에서 사용자 경험을 평가하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 래피드 프로토타이핑 방법론에 따라, 페르소나 기반 시나리오를 개발하고 이를 토대로 중충실도의 프로토타입을 설계․구현하여 수정보완의과정을 반복적으로 거쳤다. 최종 개발된 모바일 앱 형태의 프로토타입은 실제 초등학교 영어 수업 현장에 적용한 다음, 총 8명의 영어 전담 교사의 설문 응답과 관찰 기반 피드백을 통해 교사 측면과 학생 측면의 사용자 경험을 평가하였다. 평가 결과, 디지털휴먼 기반 AI튜터는 영어 말하기 학습 활동에서 학생들의 흥미와 참여도를 높이는 데 효과적이었으며, 개인화된 피드백과 실시간 수준별/맞춤형 대화 기회를 제공함으로써 학습자에게 몰입감 있는 학습 경험을 지원하는 데 긍정적인 역할을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 시스템 반응 속도, 음성 인식 정확도, 콘텐츠 다양성, 시각적 매력성 등에 있어서는 개선이 필요함을 확인하였다. 본 연구는 디지털휴먼과 AI기술의 통합을 통해 AI기반 에듀테크의실현 가능성과 교육적 가치를 실증적으로 제시함으로써, 교육 분야에서 AI 활용 가능성을 확장하는데 기여한다. 향후 연구에서는 디지털휴먼 기반 AI튜터의 학습 성과에 대한 장기적인 효과를 검증하고, 영어 외의 다양한 교과에서도 적용 가능성을 탐색할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study aimed to develop a digital human-based AI tutor prototype for elementary English education and evaluate user experience from teachers' perspectives. Following the rapid prototyping methodology, a persona-based scenario was created, and a mid-fidelity prototype was designed and iteratively refined. The final prototype, implemented as a mobile application, was applied in actual elementary English classes, and user experience was evaluated based on survey responses and observational feedback from eight English subject teachers. The results indicated that the AI tutor was effective in increasing students’ engagement and interest in English speaking activities and provided immersive learning experiences through personalized feedback and real-time, level-appropriate interactions. However, improvements are needed in system response speed, speech recognition accuracy, content variety, and visual appeal. This study demonstrates the educational value and feasibility of AI-based edutech through the integration of digital humans and AI technology, contributing to the expanded application of AI in education. Future research should investigate the long-term learning outcomes of AI tutor use and explore its applicability across subjects beyond English.
