Abstract
This study analyzes whether a company's corporate valuation level(or overvaluation), financial stability, and their interaction have a significant relationship with the investment efficiency of IT companies. Then, whether there is a significant relationship between financial stability and investment efficiency for each level of corporate valuation of IT companies is analyzed by subdividing the level of corporate valuation. In addition, this study analyzes whether the differences in these variables are meaningful for each market. To test the hypotheses, this study selects 5,358 firm-year data for IT companies listed on the Korean stock market from 2011 to 2020 and conducts difference analysis(t-test) and OLS regression analysis. The main empirical analysis results of this study are summarized as follows: First, there is a negative relationship between the overvaluation of IT companies and investment efficiency. This means that the level of corporate valuation of a company is directly related to the company's investment efficiency, and the higher(lower) the stock price of an IT company compared to the book value, the more efficient(inefficient) investment efficiency it has. Second, there is a negative relationship between the financial stability and investment efficiency of IT companies. This means that in the case of IT companies, the higher(lower) financial stability, the more efficient (inefficient). Third, the relationship between the level of corporate valuation(stock price) and financial stability and investment efficiency is that companies with high corporate valuation levels invest more efficiently(inefficient) as financial stability is high(lower). Companies with undervalued corporate valuation levels appear to be investing more efficiently(inefficient) as financial stability is lower(higher). IT companies seem to be making different investment decisions depending on their level of corporate valuation and financial stability. This study has the following implications and contributions. First, unlike previous studies, IT companies are differentiated from previous studies by empirically analyzing for the first time that stock price levels, financial stability, and their interactions are related to corporate investment efficiency. Second, it provides important implications for stakeholders of IT companies and policymakers related to the industry by empirically analyzing the relationship between investment efficiency according to financial stability by stock price level and presenting the results.
