초등학교 국어과 교육과정과 교과서의전통문화 반영 양상

이 연구는 ‘개항 이전’까지의 우리나라 문화를 전통문화로 보면서 2009, 2015 개정 국어과 교육과정과 2009 개정 교육과정에 의거하여 개발된 초등학교 국어 교과서에 전통문화가 반영된 양상을 분석하였다. 국어과 교육과정은 전통문화 교육 내용으로는 우리말과 글의 특성 및 언어 예절을, 학생들이 학습할 자료로는 ‘옛이야기’와 ‘한국 문학의 전통이 잘 드러난 작품’을 제시하였다. 초등학교 국어 교과서에서 전통문화는 제재와 화제 형태로 반영되어 학습목표를 달성하기 위한 소재 차원에서 주로 사용되었다. 국어 교과서인 만큼 언어문화 범주의 비중이 가장 높은데, 옛이야기와 고전 소설 등 고전 서사 중심의 자료가 대부분으로, 다양한 유형이나 장르의 텍스트나 작품이 제시되어있지 않다. 생활문화, 예술문화, 정신문화, 풍속 및 놀이문화 범주 요소도 반영되어 있는데, 초등학생의 수준을 고려하여 친숙하고 이해하기 쉬운 자료 중심으로 선정되어 있다. 국어교육을 통하여 전통문화를 포함한 문화 향유와 창조능력을 기르기 위해서는 몇 가지 개선도 필요한 바, 고전 서사 중심의 자료 선정을 다양화하고 학생들의 온전하고 깊이 있는 문화적 경험이나 문화적 문식성 계발을 지원하도록 학습 목표를 성취하는 데 필요한 활동과 함께 작품자체를 이해하고 감상하고 비평하는 활동이 균형적으로 이루어져야 함을 제언하였다.
Abstract
The present study assumes the domestic culture inherited until historical event of the ‘Opening of Port’ as traditional culture to analyze the traditional culture reflected in textbooks of national language education for elementary schools developed based on the curricula for national language education revised in 2009. Educational courses for traditional culture in textbooks of national language education included the courses to learn characteristics of national language, writings, and proper command of language for which the ‘Old Tales’ and ‘Literary Works reflecting Traditions of Korean Literature’ were presented as teaching materials for students in elementary schools. Topics of traditional culture are reflected in forms of themes or subject matters in textbooks of national language education for elementary schools; the topics are thus used mainly as materials to accomplish educational objectives. Among the topics, the portion of linguistic culture occupies dominance in textbooks for national language education wherein the educational materials, mainly consist of narrative stories containing old tales or classical novels, are dominant thereby the texts or works of other genre are not presented therein. Materials in cultural categories of living, art, spirit, customs, and plays are also reflected in the topics; the selected materials are modified in the simple and familiar forms for elementary school students. Some improvements are needed for elementary school students to enjoy culture including traditional ones and to cultivate creative capability through educational courses of national language. The current educational materials of national language education, which are mainly consist of classical narratives, need to be diversified to support students to get deep and sound cultural experience and to cultivate cultural literacy. The balanced activities, designed to accomplish educational objectives and to help understand, appreciate, and criticize literary works, should be provided for the elementary school students.
