Abstract
Hyflex learning integrates complementary face-to-face (synchronous) and online learning (asynchronous) experiences in service of intended learning objectives. It is increasingly used as a new teaching method in higher education. This study aimed to design and implement a Hyflex class in consideration of the Hyflex form and realistic conditions in the post-COVID-19 era and to analyze the perception of learners who have experienced it. To this end, this study implemented the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model to determine students’ perceptions of the Hyflex course design at a 9 students participated in multifaceted cognitive surveys, such as questionnaires and interviews on student perceptions. After the literature review and initial expert interviews were conducted, the entire class was designed and developed to enable both online and face-to-face learners to achieve the same learning goals. The results of the study revealed that, 62.5% of students found the Hyflex course satisfactory, whereas 37.5% were very satisfied, constituting relatively high numbers Furthermore, the potential advantages of Hyflex included students’ freedom to choose a delivery mode that fits their learning style and schedule, as well as active interactions between students and teachers. Conversely, since the Hyflex course engages both the instructor and the learner, to reduce fatigue at university level, support staff should be provided to help the instructor. Moreover, it is necessary to continuously promote the content and provide opportunities so that the students could experience it. Therefore, in operating a Hyflex course at the university level, it is necessary to include supportive personnel and provide learners with opportunities to continuously promote and experience positive content related to Hyflex. The findings of this study are expected to be useful for those who are teaching or considering teaching courses utilizing a Hyflex course design.
