Abstract

This study aimed to derive the meanings of the online learning community by exploring what experiences adult learners acquire through engaging in community activities in this environment. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and participatory observations with eight adult learners, and concepts were extracted and categorized through the constant comparison method. The analysis revealed 20 concepts, which were divided into eight subcategories that were then categorized into three main categories: “becoming a member of the community,” “sharing value together,” and “positioning online.” These research results revealed that online learning community activities 1) enhance interaction between learners, providing them a sense of belonging and pride; 2) promote exchange among members, which sustains the community, and 3) allow for flexible connections and cohesion in online spaces. In other words, the online learning community functions as a learning system that allows participating adults to continue learning, motivating themselves, and grow. In this way, the online learning environment can positively reinforce the characteristics of adult learners through community activities, thereby effectively conducting practical learning activities
