Abstract

The purpose of this study is to suggest the facilitating strategies for interaction in e-Learning environments. For this purpose, the adult learners who have enrolled the cyber graduate school took part in asynchronous online discussion about the difficulties and facilitating strategies in interaction. By content analysis of the postings on discussion board, the results were produced. First, the difficulties and obstacles of interaction in e-Learning were the absence of humane and emotional connection, delayed responses, burden on stating their opinions by just writing, passive attitude and conscious of others, surface learning. Second, the strategies for facilitating online interaction were providing diverse opportunities for feeling a sense of closeness with peers, supplementing the synchronous interaction, providing interesting and relevant contents, designing of group tasks, encouraging feedback from teacher, informing the status of interaction in class. Based on these results, the conclusions for facilitating interaction were suggested, they are as in the following : (1)Emotional and psychological dimension should be considered importantly for active interaction, (2)Synchronous interaction should be used complementarily for more instant responses (3)Some interventions(guides from facilitator, course design, evaluative feedback of interaction etc) are needed for high level knowledge construction and deep learning.
