환경학습공동체를 통한 성인의 학습에 관한 질적 사례 연구 - 세 공동체의 참여자들을 중심으로 -

우리 사회에는 환경을 주제로 성인들이 자발적으로 모여 공부하는 환경학습공동체가 존재한다. 이 연구는 성인의 환경학습공동체 현장을 학습의 관점으로 들여다보고, 이러한 공동체에서 발생하는 학습과 이를 일으킨 매개 요소를 찾고자 한다. 연구방법은 질적사례연구로서 장기간 지속적으로 활동하는 환경학습공동체 세 곳을 선정하고, 그 중 아홉 명의 제보자에 대하여 개별 면담을 진행하였다. 분석 결과 이들은 학습공동체를 통해서 지식을 습득하고, 삶의 방향을 설정하고 격려 받으며, 실천 자극을 얻을 뿐만 아니라 공부의 즐거움과 시각을 확대하는 학습을 하였다. 그리고 이러한 학습을 일으키는 매개에는 문헌, 사람과의 관계, 공동의 활동이 있었다. 성인의 환경학습공동체는 성인학습, 집합적 학습, 환경학습의 관점에서 의미를 찾을 수 있다. 또한 환경교육의 근원이면서 미래의 지향이라는 점에서 의미를 갖는다. 따라서 환경교육계는 이들에 대한 관심과 연구를 집중할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
There are environmental learning communities (ELCs) in our society, where adults voluntarily come together and study on environment. This paper was intended to look into the scene of adult’s ELCs in view of learning and to look for the learning occurring in these communities and its triggering factors. A qualitative case study was used as research method. Three ELCs long-lastingly working actively were selected and individual interviews were exerted with nine informants in those ECLs. The investigation on interviews shows that in ECLs these informants did learning through which they obtained knowledges, decided ways of their lives, were cheered for their decisions, acquired stimuli of practice, expanded pleasures of study, and also widened their visions. And literatures, relationships of people, and collective activities were shown as triggering factors on this learning. Adult’s ECLs have several meanings in view of an adult learning, a collective learning, and an environmental learning. And ECL is to be significant as a basis and also a future-face of environmental education. Thus the interest and research on ECL are needed in environmental education.
