고등교육기관의 디지털배지 활용에 관한 체계적 문헌고찰 - 국내외 연구동향을 중심으로
Systematic Literature Review on the Utilization of Digital Badges in Higher Education Institutions - Focusing on Domestic and International Research Trends

디지털배지는 학습 성과를 디지털 형태로 인증하고 개인의 역량을 체계적으로 관리할 수 있는 혁신적 학습 도구로, 고등교육기관에서의 활용 가능성이 주목받고 있다. 본 연구는 디지털배지의 국내외 활용 현황과 연구 동향을 체계적으로분석하여, 고등교육기관에서 효과적인 디지털배지 활용 방안을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 2015년부터2024년까지 발표된 문헌을 검색하여 본 연구의 연구 목적과 맥락에 부합하는 국내 문헌 11편, 국외 문헌 26편으로이루어진 문헌 37편을 최종 선정하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 디지털배지는 학습자의 외재적·내재적 학습 동기를강화하고, 학습 성과를 체계적으로 기록 및 관리하며, 학습자 개인의 경력 개발과 역량증명을 지원하여 정규교육과정 외에도 유연하고 개인화된 학습 환경을 제공하는 도구로 기능할 수 있었다. 기관의 경우, 디지털배지를 활용하여학습 성과를 투명하고 효율적으로 관리하며 학습 지원을 강화하고 학습자의 이탈률을 감소시키는데에 기여하였다. 그러나 초기 도입 비용, 기술적 의존성, 정책적 연계성 부족, 사회적 인정도 미흡 등 제도적·사회적·개인적 제한점도확인되었다. 이러한 제한점을 해결하기 위해 선정 문헌에서는 배지 설계 표준화, 정책적 지원 확대, 사용자 중심의시스템 개선, 학습 분석 데이터 활용을 통한 맞춤형 지원 등의 구체적인 실행 방안을 제언한다. 특히, 디지털배지가학습자의 동기 부여 및 성취 감각을 강화하고 고등교육기관과 고용시장 간의 연결성을 높이는 데 중요한 역할을함으로써, 대안적 고등교육의 학습 도구로써 기능할 수 있음을 강조한다. 본 연구는 디지털배지의 교육적 가능성을확장하고, 고등교육기관에서의 실질적 활용과 정책적 도입에 대한 기초 자료를 제공하는 데에 의의가 있다.
Abstract
Digital badges are innovative tools that digitally certify learning outcomes and systematically manage individual competencies, gaining attention for their potential use in higher education. Through a systematic review of 37 studies published between 2015 and 2024, this study analyzes the current status and trends in digital badge utilization. The findings highlight that digital badges enhance learner motivation, record and manage outcomes effectively, and support career development, while offering flexible and personalized learning environments. Institutions benefit from transparent outcome management and improved academic support. However, challenges such as high implementation costs, technological dependencies, and limited social recognition, are identified. To address these issues, the literature suggests standardizing badge designs, expanding policy support, and leveraging learning analytics for personalized support. This study underscores the role of digital badges in bridging higher education and the job market, offering valuable insights into their practical implementation and policy integration
