연구의 목적은 대학생의 교양수업 경험과 전공 및 진로를 결정해 가는 경험을 이해하는 데 있다. 구체적으로대학에서 수강하였던 교양수업에서의 경험이 가지는 의미와 전공 및 진로에 확신을 갖게 된 경험을 탐색하였다. 이를 위하여 4년제 대학교에서 2개 학기 이상 교양수업을 수강한 적이 있는 대학생 3명의 연구참여자와 함께 Clandinin and Connelly(2000/2007)의 내러티브 탐구 방법을 활용하여 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 과정은 현장에 존재하기, 현장에서현장 텍스트로, 현장 텍스트에서 연구 텍스트로, 연구 텍스트 작성하기의 4단계로 진행하였다. 연구참여자의 내러티브를통해 알게 된 대학생의 진로 결정 과정에서 교양수업 수강 경험은 첫 번째로는 ‘진로 탐색의 확장’, 두 번째로는‘진로 결정에 확신을 강화’, 세 번째로는 ‘깊이 있는 자기 이해의 기회’의 의미를 가지는 것으로 도출되었다. 이러한연구 결과를 통해 대학 교양교육 현장에 ‘학문적 기반의 교양교육의 다양성 확보’, ‘교육과정과 제도적 기반의 강화’, ‘진로 결정 과정을 고려한 교육 로드맵 구축’의 실천적 함의를 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 대학생의 진로 결정 과정속에 교양수업이 중요한 의미로 작용하기를 기대한다.
Abstract
This study aims to understand college students' experiences with liberal arts curricula and how these experiences, including confidence-building processes, influence their major and career choices. This study employed Clandinin and Connelly's (2000/2007) narrative inquiry methodology with three undergraduate participants who had completed at least two semesters of the liberal arts curriculum at four-year universities. The research process consisted of four stages: being in the field, progressing from the field to field texts, transitioning from field texts to research texts, and composing research texts. Through the participants' narratives, the study identified three significant meanings of liberal arts education in career decision-making: first, "expansion of career exploration"; second, "reinforcement of confidence in career decisions"; and third, "opportunity for deeper self-understanding." Based on these findings, this study presents practical implications for college liberal arts education, including "ensuring diversity in academically-grounded liberal arts education," "strengthening curricular and institutional foundations," and "establishing educational roadmaps that consider career decision-making." This study emphasizes the significant role liberal arts curricula play in college students' career decision-making.
