사회애의 규범적 특징과 도덕 교과에서의 실제

‘사회애’는 사회 구성원들이 공동선을 위하여 협력하면서 자신이 속한 사회에 대해 표하는 호의적인 감정을 의미한다. 사회애는 오랫동안 토미즘 사상가들의 관심을 끌어왔는데, 토미즘의 전통에서 그것은 오늘날 크게 두 가지 측면으로 다루어진다. 하나는 개인과 사회의 연대와 관련된 것이며, 다른 하나는 사회 정의와 관련된 것이다. 한국의 현행 초ㆍ중ㆍ고등학교 도덕 교과에서 사회애 역시 개인과 사회의 연대를 중시하는 당위 규범으로서, 그리고 사회 정의를 위한 근본 덕목으로서 제시된다. 향후에 도덕 교과에서 사회애는 보다 존재론적인 측면에서 강조되고, 개념의 외연과 서술에 있어서 체계화되며, 사회 정의의 전제 조건으로서 접근될 필요가 있다.
Abstract
‘Social charity’ means the normal love of and devotion to one's society expressed in the cooperation for the common good. Social charity has been a matter of concern to Thomism thinkers. In the Thomism tradition it is managed in two aspects; one refers to the solidarity of individual and society, the other refers to the social justice. Social charity has been recognized as a norm stressing the solidarity of individual and society, and as a fundamental virtue for the social justice in the current Moral Studies of Korean elementary and secondary schools. In the future, social charity needs to be emphasized more ontologically, more systematically in its extension and description, and as a precondition for the social justice.
