전사적 기질이 담지한 군인의 도덕성에 대한 구조적 이해

군인에게 있어서 전사적 기질의 속성과 방향을 규정하는 것은 그의 도덕성이다. 그러므로 전사적 기질은 군인의 도덕성을 구성하는 요소와 내용들을 분석함으로써 그것의 강화와 작동 기제를 이해할 수 있다. 군인에게 요구되는 전사적 기질의 이념형은 국민의 군대로서의 성격, 군사 본위의 정신, 일사보국의 사생관으로 제시된다. 군인 도덕성의 수준을 결정하는 군대의 가치체계는 '전쟁 수행과 전승(戰勝)을 향하는 의지'가 반영되어야 하며, 궁극적으로 '국가와 국민을 위한 헌신과 희생'이라는 도덕적 선(善)을 추구해야 한다. 전사적 기질을 구성하는 덕인 수행적 인성의 요소가 많이 내포된 용맹성과 도덕적 인성의 요소가 많이 내포된 정의감은 별개로 다루어질 수 있는 가치이기도 하지만 동시에 상호 작용하는 덕이다. 본고는 세 가지의 모델을 제시하여 전사적 기질과 연계될 수 있는 군인의 도덕성을 이해하고자 시도였다. 첫째는 전사적 기질에 담겨야 할 내용으로서의 군인의 도덕적 가치를 이해하기 위한 덕 윤리의 관점에서의 접근을 통한 이해이다. 둘째는 전사적 기질을 강화하는 군인의 도덕적 행위의 선택에 적용하는 보편적 도억원리를 통한 규명이다. 셋째는 도덕심리적 접근을 통하여 전사적 기질을 발양하는 군인의 도덕적 행동의 작동 기제에 대한 구조화에 근거한 해석이다. 전사적 기질이 충만한 군인은 군 임무수행의 당위성에 대해 이해할 수 있는 지성으로서의 이성적 판단력과 임무수행에의 자율적이면서도 강인한 의지력을 구비하여 군인이 지녀야 할 도덕성을 정립하게 되고 그 도덕성을 기반으로 신념화된 투혼(鬪魂)을 발휘하게 된다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to structure the soldier's value system based on his morality inherent in warrior spirit through hermeneutic phenomenological approach, which means the analysis on contents connected with the concept of an object or the interpretation on its text. By suggesting a ideal type of warrior spirit, I made premise that warrior spirit should be based on soldier's morality. The soldier's morality, in the light of ideal type advocated by Max Weber, has three types of its contents, which consist of 'the intrinsic attribute of army' as national people's army which may be interpreted as the armed forces for people, 'the spirit based on military action', and 'a view of life and death', which one will be willing to sacrifice one's life for the justification such as one's country, remaining aloof from one's death. Although there's another study that shows soldier's character the way that character has two essential parts: performance character and moral character, which is based on the theory of Thomas Lickona etc, I attempted to monistically analyze a soldier's morality in methodological holism, for a soldier to conduct being imbued with a sense of purpose. My opinion is based on the fact that a sense of purpose makes willpower drive one’s behavior to moral goals. Lickona also stated that moral character also has the important job of moderating our performance goals to honor the interests of others, to ensure that we do not violate moral values such as fairness, honesty, and caring in the pursuit of high performance. I suggested a new view point that a soldier's morality makes his free will drive to warrior spirit.
