분단 이후 지금까지 한반도 주변 정세와 북한 동향 그리고 통일문제를 핵심적 주제 및 내용으로 다루는 통일교육은 대내외적 상황 변화에 따라 민감하게 반응하면서 그 방향과 내용 그리고 방법 측면에서 많은 변화와 진화를 거듭해왔다. 그리하여 현재 통일교육의 기본방향은 학습자로 하여금 미래지향적 통일관과 건전한 안보관, 균형잡힌 북한관의 정립을 통해 통일에 대한 긍정적 인식과 바람직한 태도를 기르는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 그런데 우려스러운 점은 이렇게 설정된 통일교육의 목표 달성이 점차 요원해지고 있다는 것이다. 학교 통일교육에 대한 여론조사 및 연구의 결과, 주 교육대상인 청소년들의 북한 및 통일문제에 대한 흥미와 관심도가 점진적으로 저하되고 있으며, 통일의지 역시 지속적으로 약화되고 있는 것으로 확인되고 있다. 이러한 여론조사 및 해당 연구의 실망스러운 결과를 반영하듯, 실제 학교 통일교육에 대한 성과나 평가 역시 대체로 부족하거나 부정적인 것으로 나타나고 있다. 이에 따라 많은 통일교육 전문가와 해당 교사들이 이러한 상황을 개선코자 다양한 노력을 시도하였다. 하지만 국가주도 통일교육의 성격상 학교 현장에서 그 방향과 내용 측면에서의 획기적 변화를 시도하기는 어려우며, 단지 방법 측면에서 다양한 교수학습 방법을 시도해보는 기회가 열려있을 뿐이다. 즉, 학교교육은 통일교육의 방향과 내용과 관련하여 교육부 및 통일부의 확고한 지침에 따를 수 밖에 없지만, 그 방법에 있어서 만큼은 다양한 실험과 시도를 해 볼 여지가 충분하다고 하겠다. 이에 본 연구는 교수학습 혹은 수업 방법의 하나로서 크게 주목받고 있는 PBL(문제중심학습)을 활용하여 통일교육의 수업의 질을 개선시켜 북한 및 통일문제에 대한 학습자의 흥미와 관심을 높여보고자 한다. 이를 위해 중학교 도덕과 통일교육을 대상으로 PBL을 활용하여 수업 설계를 하고, 이를 해당 단원에 적용시켜 봄으로써 그 적용 가능성을 타진해 보고자 한다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine possibility of application PBL(Problem-based Learning) to unification education on Moral Subject in Middle school classroom for enhancing the effectiveness for unification education. In this article, I would like to explore method of unification education with PBL. We are here concerned with the key aspects of PBL. The first chapter describes the major fundamental notions and distinctive feature of PBL. The second chapter presents PBL instructional design. The third chapter make a try practical application of PBL to classrom situation. In this article, we are not concerned with the effectiveness of plan itself. It is interesting to follow up this point further, but this is not our present concern. As the purpose of this paper is concerned, it is not necessary to discuss perfection of the PBL plan. Over the past few years, several studies have been made on outline in connection with design of PBL It was found from the result that method of PBL have something attractive. In PBL, students collaborate to study the issues of a problem as they strive to creat viable solution. For these PBL's advantage, the application of PBL in school has been enlarged. And this, it is worthy of applying PBL to unification education on Moral Subject for improving the effectiveness of learning. A further direction of this study will be to provide more evidence for this result.
