본 연구는 도덕적 용기의 개념을 탐구해봄으로써 도덕적 용기가 어떻게 이해되고 있고, 그 한계는 무엇인지, 이를 보완하기 위해서 도덕적 용기의 개념은 어떻게재정의 되어야 하는지를 탐구해 보았다. 전통적으로 용기는 기본적인 덕으로 간주되어 왔지만 현 시대에 도덕적 용기는 도덕교육에서 주요한 역할을 하지 못하고있다. 용기의 개념은 시대에 따라 지속적으로 변천하고 있지만, 여전히 전사 중심적이고 생명 희생적이며 비타협적이고 개인중심적인 측면의 여지가 남아 있다. 전통적인 도덕적 용기의 개념은 상황과 대상의 장애물을 극복하는 과정에서 고독한용기가 된다. 이러한 도덕적 용기의 개념은 모든 존재의 복지를 위한 용기, 도덕적선을 실현하기 위한 용기가 되기 위해 확장될 필요가 있다. 확장된 도덕적 용기의개념은 공동의 도덕적 주체들이 어려움에도 불구하고 도덕적으로 가치있는 목적을함께 실현해 나가는 성향, 의지와 실천능력을 말한다. 확장된 도덕적 용기의 개념은 도덕적 타협, 협동, 감정이입, 배려의 중요성을 인정한다. 또한 확장된 도덕적용기의 개념은 용기의 문제를 존재의 문제와 연관짓고 자신의 정체성을 형성해가는 행위로 본다.
Abstract
In this article, I studied the understanding, the limits and problems on the conception of existing moral courage through the consideration of the conception of moral courage and the direction of the concept of moral courage. Courage has traditionally been understood as a primary virtue. Nowadays courage does not play an important role in moral education. The conception of courage is changing continuously with the times. The conception of traditional moral courage has the traces of warrior centered, uncompromising, individualistic aspects. It is the soldierly courage, male courage, and lonely courage in overcoming obstacles of situations and objects. The conception should be expand to be the courage for welfare of all and the realization of moral goodness. The expanded conception of moral courage is disposition, will and practical capability for fulfill morally worthy purpose among communal moral subjects together in the face of all difficulties. The expanded conception of moral courage recognizes the importance of moral compromise, cooperation, empathy, and caring. The expanded conception of moral courage deals with the courage relating to matter of being.
