본 논문은 도덕적 모범의 이상을 활용한 도덕교육적 접근법을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 도덕적인 사람이 되는 것이 개인적인 삶의 목표이자 도덕교육의 목표임을 감안할 때, 도덕적 모범과 그들이 지닌 도덕적 이상은 도덕교육에서 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 기대할 수 있다. 도덕적 모범의 일화에 주목하는 도덕교육은 단편적 덕목의 문제, 교화가능성의 문제, 적용가능성 및 자기 비하의 문제 등의 한계를 나타내기도 한다. 도덕적 모범이 도덕교육에서 의미 있게 활용되기 위해, 본 논문에서는 도덕적 모범의 도덕적 이상에 주목할 것을 강조한다. 도덕적 모범의 이상은 도덕교육의 내용으로서 의미가 있다. 또한, 도덕적 모범의 이상은 그 자체로 도덕교육의 목표가 될 수 있다.
Abstract
Being a moral person is the goal of individual life and the purpose of moral education. In this respect, moral exemplars and moral ideals can be expected to play an important role in moral education. Moral education using moral exemplars also shows limitations such as the problem of fragmentary virtues, the problem of indoctrination, the problem of applicability, and self-abasement. To overcome that and for moral exemplars to be meaningfully used in moral education, ideals of moral exemplars (i.e. moral ideals) should be considered more important than episodes that exhibit the moral exemplars' virtues. Specifically, the ideals of moral exemplars are meaningful as the content of moral education. In addition, moral exemplars and moral ideals can be the goals of moral education.
