(5) 조이스는 진화 생물학이 불가지론으로서 도덕 회의론을 지지한다고 주장하면서 자연주의적 도덕 실재론과 도덕 구성주의를 비판하지만, 그 주장은 약점을 가진다. (6) 조이스의 도덕에 대한 엄격한 의미의 정의는 독단적인 면이 있고, 진화 생물학이 도덕 능력과 내용 모두를 잠식한다는 점을 선취하는 선결문제 가정의 오류를 범하고 있다는 비판에 노출된다. (7) 도덕 본유성 가설의 의미를 제한하면 도덕 부산물 가설과 양립할 수 있다. (8) 도덕의 의미에 관한 엄격한 정의와 느슨한 정의도 양립 가능하다. (9) 진화론으로부터 불가지론으로서 도덕 회의론과 자연주의적 도덕 실재론 및 도덕 구성주의 모두를 도출할 수 있으며, 이는 메타윤리학적 다원론을 함의한다.
Abstract
Joyce's discussion of developing moral skepticism as agnosticism on the premise of the moral innateness hypothesis cannot be argued in a strong sense. The rationale for that is as follows: First, the moral innateness hypothesis and the moral by-product hypothesis are compatible through the interlayer theory, and the metaethics perspective derived from each perspective is compatible. For example, moral skepticism and moral constructivism derived from the moral by-product hypothesis as agnosticism derived from the moral by-product hypothesis are compatible. In situations where there is insufficient solid scientific evidence for the view of descriptive evolution ethics, it is safe to allow pluralism in terms of descriptive ethics. Second, Joyce's strict definition of moral concepts, which he uses as a tool for blackmailing moral naturalism and moral constructivism, is arbitrary. Loose definitions of morality should also be allowed, allowing for multiple definitions of moral concepts. As a result, Joyce's discussion of excluding moral naturalism and moral constructivism lacks convincing power. Third, prescriptive evolutionary ethics in the passive sense may be possible. Based on evolutionary evidence, metaethics theory can be "calibrated" by filtering out theories that the evidence does not support. It relies on inductive reasoning or abductive reasoning. If moral skepticism cannot be argued in a strong sense as Joyce's agnosticism, metaethical agnosticism or metaethical pluralism can be a safer option. I think Joyce would have supported metaethics pluralism if he had chosen to weaken the moral nature hypothesis and the strong definition of moral concepts.
