Abstract
Moral code rule consequentialism finds a way to solving the trilemma: collapse objection, rule worship objection, and incoherence objection. On the other hand, in order to check whether moral code rule consequentialism is coherent with our considered moral convictions, Hooker suggests five criteria for evaluating moral theory and attempt to justify his theory with a meta-consequentialist way. Meta-consequentialist justification, represented by reflective equilibrium argument and impartial defensibility argument, seems to prove that moral code rule consequentialism is a reasonable moral theory that endorses our considered moral conviction. However meta-consequentialist justification seems to be insufficient as a plausible response to the incoherence objection. It can be a future promising ethical theory, if moral code rule consequentialism prove the comparative advantage competing theories about the best account of impartial defensibility, and is revised to have both consequentialist properties and non-consequentialist properties in a way of coherent form within the theory.
