Abstract
This paper examines the meaning of moral rights and the correlation between moral rights and duties, which Regan is discussing based on intrinsic value, a subject of life, and the principles of respect and harm. By discussing the strengths and weaknesses of Regan's overriding the rights of the innocent, the miniride principle, and the worse-off principle, which Regan proposes as a guideline for resolving rights conflicts that may occur between animals, this paper reveals the theoretical limitations and practical implications of his rights perspective. Regan's animal rights theory is a deontological rights view built according to the concept of 'inherent value' and the 'principle of respect based on justice'. Although his point of animal rights view is criticized for its logical consistency and maintaining an overly strong viewpoint on moral rights, it is positively evaluated that it will contribute to the welfare of animals in practice.
