서울 구로구의 동네 효과(neighborhood effect)가 외국인에 대한 인식에 미치는영향: 집합효율성과 외국인 친구의 조절효과를 중심으로

초록

본 연구의 목적은 서울시 구로구 거주 한국주민을 대상으로 동네효과(neighborhood effect)가 외국인에 대한 인식에 대한 효과를 확인하는 것이다. 특히 개인적 요인인 집합효율성과 평소 알고 지내는 외국인 친구가 둘 사이의 관계를 조절하는지 상호작용 효과검증에 초점을 맞추었다. 이를 위하여 「2020 구로구 주민실태조사」 자료와 ‘서울 열린데이터 광장’의 구로구 동별 자료를 결합하여 다층자료를 구성하였다. 다층모형 분석 결과 주요한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 구로구의 동별 속성이 외국인에 대한 인식을 설명하는 요인이 유의미하였다. 즉 동네효과가 유의미한 영향을 미친 것으로, 외국인에 대한 인식은 지역 주민의 요인뿐 아니라 이들이 거주하는 지역 요인에 의해서도 영향을 받고 있음을 의미한다. 둘째, 사회해체이론에 따른 동네효과 요인 중 외국인주민비율, 노령화지수, 이혼율이 이주민에 대한 인식에 부적(-) 영향을 미친 것으로 확인되었다. 반면 개인적 특성 중에서 집합효율성과 평소 알고 지내는 외국인 친구 유무는 정(+)의 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 상호작용효과 검증 결과 집합효율성과 빈곤율이, 집합효율성과 이혼율이 각각 유의미하였다. 접촉가설에 따른 요인인 외국인 친구 유무는 외국인거주비율과 조절효과가 검증되었다. 특히 외국인 거주 비율에 따른 밀집도 요인의 부(-)적인 영향을 평소 알고 지내는 친구의 정(+)적인 효과가 억제하는 상호작용 효과가 유의미하였다. 이러한 분석 결과를 토대로 이주민과 선주민의 유대와 상호교류를 촉진할 뿐만 아니라 지역사회의 객관적인 환경과 동별 이질성을 충분히 고려한 지역사회 차원의 정책이 필요함을 제언하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of individual and neighborhood factors on the perception of migrants among Korean residents living in Guro-gu, Seoul. The research specifically focuses on confirming the existence of an interaction effect between collective efficacy and neighborhood instability factors. For purposes of this research, data from the “2020 Guro-gu Resident Survey” and statistics on each dong of Guro-gu from the Seoul Open Data Plaza was pooled and analyzed. The results of the multi-level model analysis confirmed that the proportion of migrants in each dong, the aging index, and the divorce rate had a negative (-) effect on the perception of migrants. In contrast, among the individual factors, collective efficacy and the presence of a foreign-national friend had a positive (+) effect. Furthermore, the research went on to confirm the existence of an interaction effect between collective efficacy and the divorce rate, as well as collective efficacy and the presence of a foreign-national friend. The negative (-) effect of neighborhood factors due to a high concentration of foreign-nationals was effectively suppressed by the positive (+) effect of the presence of a close foreign-national friend, and the interaction effect seen in this case was deemed significant. Based on the results of this analysis, we recommend community programs and policies that not only strengthen the interactions and connections between migrant and non-migrant residents but also simultaneously take into consideration the distinct environmental factors of each community and the heterogeneity among different neighborhoods (dong).
