Abstract
The Inter-group contact theory has been suggested as a way to lower negative attitudes toward foreigners, but the opposite results regarding contacts and attitudes toward foreigners have been presented in empirical studies. Using the 2020 Seoul Survey and de facto population of Seoul, we find that Seoul citizens living in areas where many long-stay foreigners are present are acceptable toward foreign workers, while inhabitants who live areas in which there are many short-stay foreigners tend to have negative attitudes toward foreign workers. These findings suggest that contacts may cause different implications on natives’ attitudes according to the quality of contacts.
