Abstract
This study examines how the Mouridiyya Sufi order, which originated in Senegal, West Africa, reinterprets the West African hospitality culture called Teranga and transforms the concepts of family and community. In the Mouridiyya, Teranga is not simply a cultural practice, but also has a profound influence on religious obligations based on faith, and is a core value that supports moral solidarity and spiritual relationships that are not limited to blood relations. Furthermore, in the European Mouridiyya diaspora communities spread across France, Italy, and Spain, mutual aid and religious rituals based on Teranga are institutionalized through communities called Dahira, contributing to the formation of social capital and the maintenance of transnational solidarity. This study aims to reveal how the Mouridiyya’s Teranga practice intersects with religious ethics, economic activities, and the contexts of migration and settlement, and contributes to the reconstruction of family and community.
