Abstract
The purpose of this study is based on Social Cognitive Career Theory to analyze how pre-URP participation, which is operated to revitalize educational links between science high schools / science gifted schools, and science and technology specialized universities (DGIST, GIST, KAIST, and UNIST), affected the advancement, major selection, and career design of science gifted students. To this end, we collected response data from 112 beneficiaries who participated in pre-URP after 2021, and qualitatively analyzed whether pre-URP affected the career formation of science gifted students, focusing on SCCT's self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and career goals through surveys on university entrance, major selection, and future plans. As a result of the study, pre-URP program acted as an experience-based career formation program that provided a practical turning point in the career decision-making process of each participant beyond simple science exploration experience. Students acquired a sense of self-efficacy or confirmed suitability for their major through participation in the program, internalized their motivation and goals for college entrance, and then showed execution ability to use them as entrance examination strategies such as self-introduction, vitality, and inquiry activities. This path was consistent with the theoretical structure of SCCT (performance experience self-efficacy expectation of results goal setting and execution). This study empirically suggests that pre-URP can be converted into a career design-oriented education model beyond the existing research-oriented program and suggests the possibility of it as a career design education model for science gifted students in that it provides SCCT-based career education design principles.
